Should I Attend a Modeling School?
To be able to be a model, you must look good, be personable, ambitious but also, you should have a very important set of skills. That is why many aspiring models express the need to attend a modeling school because it’s the perfect way to learn these skills and tricks by taking classes designed for models-to-be.
On the other hand, are modeling schools worth it ? Here are a few things you might be wondering too:
Do I need to go to modeling school ?
No, you don’t ! While some models find amazing opportunities there, most of them get their careers started in other ways, like submitting a few pictures to qualified agents and scouts. However, this doesn’t mean modeling schools have no value.
If you go to a modeling school, you learn more, you have fun and you meet new people who have the same interests as you. You’ll be a more confident and inspired person, and the skills you’ll learn will stick with you through all of your career’s challenges.
Are modeling schools expensive?
Prices vary depending on the quality of the school and the location, but in general, you can expect to pay a few hundred dollars for an introductory weekend course, a thousand dollars for a week long workshop, and several thousand dollars or more for a multi-week modeling program or camp.
What kind of activities can I learn in modeling school ?
A great modeling school should give students a great overview of the industry and cover all the main aspects, for example :
- Types of modeling, runway, fashion, commercial, plus size, etc.
- What to expect on set, how to pose, how to work the camera
- How to achieve a confident walk on the runway and beyond
- Makeup application and tricks to enhance your look
How do I evaluate a modeling school ?
Before applying to a modeling school, do your homework and find out as much as possible about the one you’re interested in, including who they’re owned by, how long they’ve been in business, what they teach and who the instructors are.
If the modeling school is a “good” one, they will have been around for a long time, will have a good reputation within the community of modeling, and will be owned and operated by real industry professionals (former models, agents, fashion photographers, etc.).
