Atlanta, Georgia- Independent recording artist and entrepreneur, Denise Tichenor aka D’Neter, was originally set to release just one single in June, “Another Day”, from her upcoming album.
Yet, with all the compounding social injustice filling the urban communities, Denise says, “I knew a movement was conceived within me that would speak to the hearts of the youth, the parents, as well as our community leaders and officials. Understanding the difficult dynamics of being an artist signed to a gospel division of a label, yet utilizing a song that at one point in time was coined a “protest song” speaking to many of the revolutionaries and activists of Marvin Gaye’s time, this remake of the song, “What’s Going On”, helps to address the pain of today’s injustices.
Atop an up-tempo house mix that was produced by Jaeforte & Anthony Antoine of Atlanta, GA, Denise’s soulful voice effortlessly rings out classic lyrics to inspire a call to action to effectively address the growing concerns of rioting, and peaceful marches due to racial profiling, juvenile injustice, and police accountability. “As a part of my ministry, ‘What’s Going On’ is a Movement bigger than me and you. It’s a Movement that’s going to take our Church Leaders, Activist Groups, Artists, Celebrities, Congress and our Justice Departments to all stand with this movement, to bring not only awareness, but healing at a time of social unrest within our communities. This can only be done through effective communication between all parties involved,” says Denise.
Her upcoming project, to be released later this year, will feature the single “Another Day” penned by Virgil Staford of aNashville, TN. Denise uses this song to speak on her new life and the second chance God has blessed her with, after overcoming hardship and the difficult ending of her marriage/partnership of twenty years. Denise testifies that, “All too often we can never get into the blessings God has for us in the next moment or tomorrow, because we continue to hold on to the pain, sorrow and let downs of yesterday or today.” This forthcoming album speaks on her finding new love again, a new life in her singing career, and a Ministry that will testify to God’s unbreakable and unshakeable power and love.
Denise Tichenor is the first independent artist to be signed to the gospel division of Top Notch Music/INGrooves/Universal Music.
